Tequila Works’ GYLT Goes Multiplatform This July

Tequila Works, the studio behind RiME and the upcoming Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story, among other titles, is bringing its delicate horror title, GYLT, to new platforms. Formerly a Google Stadia exclusive, GYLT will be launching on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC on July 6.

Set in a creepy and melancholic world, GYLT is an eerie story mixing fantasy and reality in a surrealist place where nightmares become real. Hide from terrible creatures or choose to confront them as players find their way through the challenges of this wicked world, embarking on a journey where they face their worst fears and are confronted with the emotional impact of their actions.

“In the beginning, we created a small group of people who were talking about the game. For example, I’m older now, I used to play a lot of survival horror games, and one that I really liked was Silent Hill. And you can see things here and there that remind you of it, but we didn’t want to make GYLT a psychological horror game,” said David Canela, Game Director.

“In fact, what we’re trying to do is to create more like a delicate horror experience. And for that, we had some inspiration from movies like Coraline or Pan’s Labyrinth. But one of the things we did in those weeks was talk about our own experiences because GYLT talks about bullying. So talking also about what happened when we were younger, and those kinds of things and how we failed and, and that helped us also to develop the idea itself.”

With the foundations of the game set, it was up to the team to make GYLT a viable product for players to enjoy. Having been released only for the Stadia platform, now the team has the opportunity to reach more players with a multiplatform launch. It certainly helped that they already had a solid base to build on, with only the “technical requirements” being a challenge for the port.

Working with Parallel Circles, a studio specializing in porting, Tequila Works can better supervise the process to ensure that the GYLT port has all of the expected quality while the rest of the team continues to work on other titles.

“When we released the game on Stadia, it’s true that there were a lot of people who wanted to play. Lots of people who have played in Stadia gave us really good feedback. They love the game. So we are really happy that more people can experience it. And I think it’s a pretty good opportunity now to see how more people react to this,” Canela added.

For new players jumping into GYLT for the first time, Tequila Works fully expects players to have fun with the game, especially with “delicate horror not being the same fun that you can find in other games.” With its strong messaging on bullying, GYLT will also make players think more about the subject matter, and that is something that the developers hold dear.

GYLT will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC on July 6.
